3A Region III District 17 recap October 29, 2013

Lorena moved up to 94 from 121 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region III District 17. The Leopards climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Robinson 11-7.

West fell to La Vega 61-27 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Lorena's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Harris Coleman threw for 123 yards and Cody McKenzie had 43 yards receiving. On the ground Coleman chipped in 91 yards. Andrew Marrero helped Lorena's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 49 yards.

Coleman put up the best numbers in passing as Ray Biles' team defeated the Rockets.

Lorena's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Leopards feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Coleman has thrown for 887 yards and 9 touchdowns this season, while Marrero has 22 catches for 280 yards. Coleman also leads the league in rushing with 1,137 yards.

Joshua Terrell of the Connally is only 93 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 104 carries Terrell has put up 907 yards this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Robinson takes on China Spring. As it stands, Tommy Allison's team is in first, while the Cougars are in fourth.

The Leopards and the Rockets played the closest game in 3A Region III District 17 this week, with the Leopards eventually emerging with a 11-7 victory. Coleman ran for 91 yards during the win.
