The Fenwick Friars will take on the Resurrection Bandits at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fenwick will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
If Fenwick beats Resurrection with six runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Friars had just enough and edged out Providence Catholic 6-5 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Friars have posted since June 3, 2024.
Sofia Kateeb was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Kateeb was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bella Bigham was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Gabriella Simon was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Resurrection earned an 8-3 victory over Amundsen on Wednesday.
Like Fenwick, Resurrection also got a great game from a two-way player: Elizabeth Dorgan. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Dorgan has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Molly Reichenberger, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Madison Kruszewski, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Resurrection kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Fenwick pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Resurrection, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fenwick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Resurrection struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fenwick came up short against Resurrection in their previous matchup back in April, falling 4-1. Will the Friars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
