Baseball Game Preview: Nicholas County Bluejackets vs. Bourbon County Colonels

Nicholas County hasn't had much luck against Bourbon County recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Nicholas County will challenge Bourbon County at 5:30 p.m. Nicholas County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Nicholas County will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Saturday, then bounced right back against Newport on Saturday. Nicholas County's pitchers stepped up to hand Newport a 13-0 shutout. The Bluejackets haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Chandler Kenney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Nicholas County got a big performance out of Ethan Ritchie, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Bentley Crump also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Bourbon County fell victim to Mercer County and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 13-0 to the Titans.

Bourbon County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Nicholas County, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Nicholas County came out on top in a nail-biter against Bourbon County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will Nicholas County repeat their success, or does Bourbon County has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
