Baseball Game Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. New Paltz Huguenots

The Spackenkill Spartans will head out on the road to take on the New Paltz Huguenots at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Spackenkill will be strutting in after a win while New Paltz will be coming in after a loss.

Spackenkill took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Rhinebeck. The Spartans have beaten the Hawks the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hawks has come to flipping the script.

Our Lady of Lourdes hit New Paltz with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Huguenots fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 8-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Huguenots in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Cole Masseo put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Masseo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Jack Maiale made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Malcolm Dillehay was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

New Paltz's loss dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Spackenkill, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.

Spackenkill came out on top in a nail-biter against New Paltz in their previous meeting on April 14th, sneaking past 6-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
