Volleyball Recap: Brae'ona Smith and Avery Larpenteur Secure Win for Lafayette

Lafayette entered their tilt with New Iberia on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 3-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lafayette walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-15, 25-18.

Leading Lafayette to victory were Avery Larpenteur and Brae'Ona Smith. Larpenteur had five aces and three digs, while Smith had 19 digs and two assists. Smith is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Lafayette was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive matches.

Lafayette's win bumped their record up to 20-4. As for New Iberia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-25 record this season.

Lafayette will be playing in front of their home fans against Port Barre at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for New Iberia, they will face off against Ascension Episcopal at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
