Softball Recap: Cedar Bluff Drops Highest Score of Season Against Gaston

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cedar Bluff). They were the clear victor by a 20-9 margin over the Gaston Bulldogs on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Mackenzie Kimmons looked comfortable as she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Cedar Bluff let Kylie Vadon and Rylie Walker run wild. Vadon went 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Walker went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Those five hits gave Walker a new career-high. Paityn Walker was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Cedar Bluff was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Cedar Bluff's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Gaston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedar Bluff will head out to challenge Piedmont at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaston will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Anniston at 5:00 p.m. on April 3rd.
