Baseball Game Preview: Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears vs. Sotomayor Wolves

The Port of Los Angeles Polar Bears will challenge the Sotomayor Wolves at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Port of Los Angeles sitting on five straight victories and Sotomayor on eight.

Port of Los Angeles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Sherman Oaks CES a 4-0 shutout.

Damian Ochoa was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Ochoa wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Vasquez, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Anthony Garcia, who earned one run and three stolen bases.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wolves on Saturday. Sotomayor skirted past Van Nuys 7-6.

Sotomayor's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Port of Los Angeles, their record is now 13-8.

Port of Los Angeles was able to grind out a solid win over Sotomayor in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. Do the Polar Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
