Baseball Recap: Heights Triumphs

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Heights ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Olathe North Eagles 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted since March 28, 2025.

Myreal Walker and Carter Smith were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Walker tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. At the plate, Walker went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Smith went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Walker is becoming a predictor of Heights' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Brett Cutler was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Heights is undefeated when Cutler posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Anthony Bennett, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run.

Heights' victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Olathe North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Heights has already played their next contest (against North), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Olathe North, they will face off against Shawnee Mission South on Tuesday.
