Softball Recap: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Medomak Valley Panthers
Morse had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it six. They lost 17-0 to the Medomak Valley Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 two weeks ago.
As for Medomak Valley, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games.
For Medomak Valley's part, Sidney Nicholls tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Nicholls has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one hit any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Rheanne Simmons was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Claudia Feeley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Coming up, Morse will host Mt. Ararat at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Medomak Valley, they will take on Erskine Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 0.9, the Eagles 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
