AAAA Region 2 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Veterans moved up to 155 from 187 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 2. A 32-13 win over Rutland helped the Warhawks improve their standing.

Mary Persons extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Howard, 38-2. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Bulldogs.

West Laurens's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Garrel Quainton threw for 90 and one touchdown and Trevosier Mitchell had 42 yards receiving. On the ground Gerald Carr chipped in 49 yards. Calvin Walker helped West Laurens' passing attack out by catching two balls for 17 yards.

Mary Persons' Jordan Banks and Macey Zellner have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Banks has thrown for 454 yards this season, while Zellner has 10 catches for 224 yards. Carr from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 497 yards.

The top two teams in AAAA Region 2 will face off this week when first place Westside takes on second place Mary Persons. Last week, Westside bested West Laurens, while the Bulldogs beat Howard.

Mary Persons took down Howard 38-2 last week, the largest margin of any game.
