Baseball Game Preview: Holy Trinity Titans vs. Xaverian Clippers

Holy Trinity hasn't had much luck against Xaverian recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Titans will take on the Clippers at 4:00 p.m. Holy Trinity's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Xaverian's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Holy Trinity took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let St. Dominic get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Titans considering their one-run performance the match before.

Xaverian came out on top against St. John's Prep on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Clippers walked away with a 6-3 win over the Red Storm.

Emmet Gleason looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Xaverian's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Danny Cronin, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jake Lanzaro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Holy Trinity pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Xaverian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Holy Trinity came up short against Xaverian when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 6-3. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
