Softball Recap: Pottsville Beats Ozark for Their Seventh Straight Win

Pottsville entered their tilt with Ozark on Tuesday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They put the hurt on the Hillbillies with a sharp 9-2 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-0 on Monday.

Jessica Atkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Addy Wilmoth was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Callie Holcomb was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pottsville pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ozark, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.

Coming up, Ozark will head out to challenge Paris at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.33 runs per game on average), something the Hillbillies will no doubt try to take advantage of. Pottsville will be paying especially close attention to Ozark's game: after Ozark faces off against Paris, they'll take on Pottsville again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
