Basketball Recap: Caydence Vermillion's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Oakwood over Iroquois West

Oakwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 49-37 to the Iroquois West Raiders. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Oakwood lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Caydence Vermillion, who posted 12 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Gracie Hanner, who earned seven points and three steals.

Oakwood's loss dropped their record down to 8-20. As for Iroquois West, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-13.

Oakwood will take on Salt Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Salt Fork will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Oakwood surely won't give up without a fight. As for Iroquois West, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Prairie Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Iroquois West has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
