Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Notre Dame Prep had won eight straight at home, but on Monday they bumped up to 17-4 to make it nine. They skirted past the Chaparral Firebirds 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-2 on Friday.

Trystan Swayda looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Layne Henry was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Greyson Bott, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for Chaparral, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-9. The loss was just more heartbreak for they who fell 4-2 when the teams previously met back in April of 2025.

On Chaparral's side, Devin Long was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Long also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Firebirds are 6-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Keone Ede was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Cruz Chavez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Notre Dame Prep will head out to face off against Casteel at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Chaparral, they will square off against Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
