Baseball Recap: Old Bridge Starts Season with Win Against East Brunswick

Old Bridge gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the East Brunswick Bears. The Knights not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 11, 2024.

Justin Hascup made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Old Bridge got a massive performance out of Akhil Penkala, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Penkala a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Matt Chin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Looking ahead, Old Bridge will head out to take on Spotswood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Brunswick, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Knights at 4:00 p.m.
