Preview: Fort Hancock Mustangs vs. Wink Wildcats

Fort Hancock is 2-8 against Wink since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Fort Hancock Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Wink Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Fort Hancock sitting on eight straight victories and Wink on six.

Last Friday, Fort Hancock didn't have too much trouble with McCamey at home as they won 54-36.

Alessandra Jimenez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisol Diaz, who scored six points along with two blocks.

In what's become a running theme this season, Wink gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They really took it to Anthony for the full four quarters, racking up a 80-45 victory on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Wink has posted since December 8, 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wink to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aizlyn Dewberry, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Finley Frerich, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

Fort Hancock pushed their record up to 17-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Wink, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fort Hancock have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Wink, though, as they've been averaging only 34.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Fort Hancock came up short against Wink when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 44-39. Can Fort Hancock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
