Soccer Game Preview: McGavock vs. Maplewood

The McGavock Raiders will head out to face off against the Maplewood Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

On Tuesday, McGavock came up short against Antioch and fell 3-1.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Maplewood's offense. They came up short against Hume-Fogg on Tuesday, falling 8-0. The loss continues a trend for Maplewood in their meetings with Hume-Fogg: they've now lost nine in a row.

Maplewood's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for McGavock, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.

McGavock was able to grind out a solid win over Maplewood in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for McGavock since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
