Preview: Killingly Redmen vs. New London Whalers

Killingly has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the New London Whalers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Killingly will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Connecticut Rankings (they are ranked 126th, while New London is ranked 15th).

Killingly's 17-6 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 57-46 to Waterford on Thursday.

Meanwhile, New London came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 77-59 win over East Lyme. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

New London's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Devan Williams led the charge by scoring 20 points along with five assists and three steals. Williams has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Da'Shaun Phillips, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Killingly's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for New London, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Killingly was dealt a bruising 78-49 loss at the hands of New London in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. Can Killingly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
