JD Johnson was simply too much for 11th-ranked Liberty on Friday night.
The quarterback for fourth-ranked
Pinnacle (Phoenix) threw for five touchdowns, two to
Marcus Libman in a 41-17 at Liberty. One was a 50-yarder to
Cade Horton, who also rushed for the game's first touchdown, lifting the Pioneers to their seventh win in eight tries.
Johnson and Libman hooked up for scoring passes of 53 and 65 yards. He also threw TD passes to
Nate Hull (9 yards) and
Shane Sunday (8) for the Pioneers, who jumped to a 21-0 lead and were never really threatened.
Compared to many among the Top 25 in Phoenix, the Pinnacle-Liberty game was close.
The area's top two Chandler and Saguaro, also had little trouble, winning by scores of
49-0 and 56-0, and fifth-ranked Centennial scored a 49-0 win.
