Softball Game Preview: Bayard Rustin Golden Knights vs. Avon Grove Red Devils

Bayard Rustin is 2-7 against Avon Grove since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Golden Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Red Devils at 3:45 p.m. Bayard Rustin is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Bayard Rustin is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Kennett 15-0 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Ashley Falcone was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Morgan Palotas was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Kraft, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Bayard Rustin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Avon Grove didn't have quite enough to beat East on Wednesday and fell 5-4. The game marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Bayard Rustin pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Avon Grove, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Bayard Rustin couldn't quite finish off Avon Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Golden Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
