Baseball Recap: Holmes Takes a Loss

Holmes extended their losing streak to 16 on Friday, dropping them down to 1-16-1. They lost 16-3 to the Bellevue Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-8 back in March.

Holmes saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bill Walker, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

As for Bellevue, their win bumped their record up to 8-16. That looming 16-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

On Bellevue's side, Carson Scott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Scott also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Bellevue is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-15 otherwise. Scott was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Evan Brooks was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jacob Berning was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Holmes will square off against Bracken County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bellevue, they will take on Calvary Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
