Basketball Game Preview: Franklin Wildcats vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs

The Franklin Wildcats will challenge the Monterey Trail Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

It was a proper cat-fight when Franklin challenged Laguna Creek on Wednesday. Franklin was the clear victors by an 87-64 margin over Laguna Creek. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Aiden Rollins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8-for-9 on his way to 17 points and six assists. Hayden Trach was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail entered their tilt with Pleasant Grove on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Eagles 82-39. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Eagles are ranked 546th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Franklin is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season. As for Monterey Trail, their record is now an identical 22-5.

Franklin came up short against Monterey Trail in their previous matchup back in January, falling 72-61. Can Franklin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
