Baseball Recap: Dekalb Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither DeKalb nor Neuqua Valley made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Barbs skirted past the Wildcats 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Barbs have posted against the Wildcats since May 7, 2024.

Breydon Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Evan Johnson was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gavin Cheney, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

DeKalb kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2025.

The victory was the third in a row for DeKalb, bringing their record up to 12-7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Neuqua Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

DeKalb will have a chance to go back-to-back against Neuqua Valley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
