Baseball Game Preview: Basha Bears vs. O'Connor Eagles

The Basha Bears will challenge the O'Connor Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Basha is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 16, 2024 on Thursday. They came up short against Brophy College Prep, falling 11-1. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bears' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Basha saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grant Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Smith's first of the season. Trevion Jones was another, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Meanwhile, O'Connor came up short against Casteel on Thursday and fell 5-1. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly four runs.

Gio Boncore-Montoya made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Basha's loss dropped their record down to 3-2-1. As for O'Connor, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Basha hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like O'Connor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Basha came up short against O'Connor in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, falling 6-1. Can Basha avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
