Basketball Recap: Keilen Dalton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Portland over Greenbrier

Portland was the 44-39 winner over Greenbrier when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Portland Panthers fell to the Greenbrier Bobcats 63-58. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bobcats 23-18 in the first quarter.

Portland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keilen Dalton, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Brown, who posted 14 points.

Even though they lost, Portland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Portland has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Greenbrier, they moved to 3-13 with that victory, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Portland will head out to take on Station Camp at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Station Camp will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Portland surely won't give up without a fight. As for Greenbrier, they will be playing at home against Macon County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenbrier is facing Macon County at the right time seeing as Macon County is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
