Preview: Mohave Thunderbirds vs. Sabino Sabercats

Mohave has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Sabino Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mohave will be strutting in after a win while Sabino will be coming in after a loss.

Mohave can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat River Valley 48-6 at home. With Mohave ahead 35-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Joe Yoney JR had a dynamite game for Mohave, rushing for 85 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 209 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Mohave also got help from Nathaniel Villarreal who showed off his sure hands for 107 receiving yards.

The team's defense also helped out by holding River Valley to a paltry 94 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mohave's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Jonathon Williams and Blake Moore who racked up four sacks between them.

Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Sabino had to settle for a 31-28 loss against Morenci on Friday.

Sabino's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cameron Hackworth, who threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.

Mohave's win was their ninth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.44 points. As for Sabino, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
