While Thornwood's win against Kankakee wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Thunderbirds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Kays on Wednesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-2 last Monday.

Amira Hondras made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hashim Vincent, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kordae Montgomery, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Thornwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Kankakee, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Thornwood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Kays: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
