The Pike Central Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Mt. Vernon Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Pike Central blew past Tecumseh, posting a 49-20 win on the road. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.

Pike Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Matthew Meadows, who rushed for 95 yards and four touchdowns on only seven carries, and Grant Boyd, who rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. With that strong performance, Meadows is now averaging an impressive 2.5 rushing touchdowns per game. Pike Central also got help from Carson Wiscaver, who showed off his sure hands for 109 receiving yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Pike Central was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 444 total yards. That's the most total yards they've posted since back in August of 2023.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mt. Vernon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They claimed a resounding 56-28 victory over South Spencer at home.

Pike Central's record is now 2-0. As for Mt. Vernon, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.
