Softball Recap: Bell Bulldogs vs. Branford Buccaneers
After flying high against Dixie County last Thursday, Bell came back down to earth. The Bell Bulldogs fell just short of the Branford Buccaneers by a score of 6-4 on Friday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meetings.
Alaina Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Gracelynd Joiner-Solis and Alexsandra Faught stepped up to the plate in a big way. Joiner-Solis went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Faught scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base was Faught's first of the season.
Bell's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Branford, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Coming up, Bell will face off against Dixie County at 7:00 p.m. on March 21st. As for Branford, they will take on Union County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Union County knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Branford likes a good challenge.
