Football Game Preview: Northeast Raiders vs. Toombs County Bulldogs

The Northeast Raiders will take on the Toombs County Bulldogs in a holiday battle at at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Northeast is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Friday. They blew past Fitzgerald, posting a 46-14 win. The victory was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Nick Woodford was his usual excellent self, rushing for 326 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.2 yards per carry, and also picking up 30 receiving yards and one touchdown. He has been hot, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Reginald Glover, who rushed for 105 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Northeast was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 457 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Toombs County waltzed into their contest last Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They really took it to the Fighting Irish for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-15 win. The Bulldogs pushed the score to 28-8 by the end of the third, a deficit the Fighting Irish had little chance of recovering from.

Northeast better keep an eye on Tj Stanley. He was instrumental in Toombs County's win, throwing for 152 yards and three touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 97 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. Stanley's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Northeast's record is now 12-2. As for Toombs County, their record is now 12-1.

Northeast was able to grind out a solid victory over Toombs County in their previous meeting back in November of 2020, winning 27-14. Does Northeast have another victory up their sleeve, or will Toombs County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
