Recap: Orlando Science Orcas vs. Lake Mary Prep Griffins
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 76-39, which was the final score in Orlando Science's's tilt against Lake Mary Prep on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Orlando Science can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 714th, while Lake Mary Prep is ranked 335th).
Orlando Science lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aarish Ali, who scored 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for him. Glen Wickersham was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds.
Lake Mary Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wade Brashears led the charge by scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals. The match was Brashears' ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cael Ogden, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Orlando Science and nudges their season record down to 4-6. As for Lake Mary Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orlando Science's road trip will continue as they head out to face Merritt Island Christian at 5:30 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Merritt Island Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Saturday. Lake Mary Prep will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Foundation Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
