Baseball Recap: Sterling Has No Trouble Against West Brook

Sterling won the last time they faced West Brook and things went their way on Friday too. The Rangers blew past the Bruins 14-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rangers.

Caleb Valencia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Diego Gonzalez looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Sterling: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 7-11 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Reid Butler and Ashton Butler did most of the damage at the plate: Reid scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Ashton went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Sterling is undefeated when Ashton posts two or more runs, but 5-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Joesph Franco, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Sterling always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Sterling's record is now 9-12. As for West Brook, their defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-18-1.

Sterling has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Lee on the 8th. As for West Brook, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Port Arthur Memorial on the 8th.
