LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for
Venice (Los Angeles, Calif.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Gondoliers beat Palisades (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) 49-15.
The Gondoliers were up 42-7 at the half after taking the lead on a
Dajuan Parham touchdown run in the first quarter.
Venice expanded its lead to 42 points entering the fourth quarter. VHS scored once in the quarter on a kick return touchdown by
Keino Mitchell.
A 35-point second quarter helped the Los Angeles school secure the big victory. The Gondoliers scored on a touchdown run by Parham, a
Dewan Thompson touchdown run, a defensive touchdown, a defensive touchdown and a touchdown run by
Alijah Lee in the quarter.
Venice's standout player in the win was Parham. The junior ran for two touchdowns.
Kevin Acosta made a difference for the Dolphins. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
VHS had given up an average of 13.9 points prior to the contest. Palisades' 15 points were well below its season average of 24.3 per game.
The Gondoliers also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 42-14.
The defeat comes as a step back for Palisades, which notched a 36-24 victory over Westchester in its previous outing. The loss snapped PHS's 3-game winning streak.
Venice (7-2) will play a Western game against Fairfax next week, while Palisades (5-4) will take on University also in a Western game.
