Football Recap: Oxford Comes Up Short

Oxford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the Maynard Tigers. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 8-0 in the first quarter.

When it comes to explaining why Oxford lost, don't look at Jack Grenier. Despite the final result, he rushed for 96 yards and one score on only 12 carries.

Oxford's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Maynard, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-6.

Oxford and Maynard will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Pirates see the field they'll take on Millbury at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th. As for Maynard, their break will end when they face West Boylston/Tahanto at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th.
