Football Recap: Lakes Eagles vs. Grayslake North Knights
Lakes fell victim to Grayslake North and their airtight defense on Thursday. They were outmatched by the Grayslake North Knights at home and fell 40-0. The Eagles lost against the Knights in their previous head to head back in September of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 20-7 score last time.
Mitchell Hughes was his usual excellent self, throwing for 279 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown for Grayslake North. Hughes really tore up the turf during one magnificent 88-yard run. Cameron Bates was Hughes' top target, picking up 142 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Lakes and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Grayslake North, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Lakes will face off against Wauconda at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wauconda is coming into the game with three straight defeats at home, meaning Lakes will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Grayslake North, they will welcome North Chicago at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
