Softball Recap: Claymont Takes a Loss

Claymont had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the New Philadelphia Quakers by a score of 6-5. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Quakers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2017.

As for New Philadelphia, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.

For New Philadelphia's part, the team relied heavily on Sidney Vandall, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was Vandall's first of the season. Ellie Mason was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Claymont will face off against Fairless at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for New Philadelphia, they will take on Madison Comprehensive at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Quakers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
