Swink proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Rye Thunderbolts 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on nine straight.

Swink wouldn't go down easily and took Rye into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 16-14.

Taylor Mendenhall paced Swink's offense, picking up 16 kills. Mendenhall got some help from Briana McElroy and her 27 assists. Finally, Mendenhall was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high 13 blocks.

Despite the loss, Rye still got an impressive performance from Gloriana Ruiz, who had 14 digs and three aces. Ruiz is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Swink's victory bumped their record up to 16-4. As for Rye, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Swink will host Limon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rye, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hoehne at 6:00 p.m.
