Preview: Delphi Community Oracles vs. North Newton Spartans
Delphi Community has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the North Newton Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Newton took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Delphi Community, who comes in off a win.
Even though Delphi Community has not done well against Winamac recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Delphi Community snuck past Winamac with a 57-53 victory.
Walker Jones and Kaydn McAtee were among the main playmakers for Delphi Community as the former scored 19 points and the latter scored 26 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McAtee has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Levi Coghill, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, North Newton struggled with assists on January 6th (Twin Lakes had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Newton took a hard 64-48 fall against Twin Lakes.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Evan Gagnon, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Gagnon is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joe Stalewski, who scored nine points.
Delphi Community's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-9. As for North Newton, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Delphi Community have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for North Newton, though, as they've been averaging only 27.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Delphi Community came out on top in a nail-biter against North Newton in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, sneaking past 34-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Delphi Community since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
