Softball Game Preview: Hayden Wildcats vs. Corner Yellow Jackets

Hayden is 9-1 against Corner since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hayden Wildcats will square off against the Corner Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Hayden's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

On Tuesday, Hayden earned an 11-7 win over West Point. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won seven in a row.

Payton Hill was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Baylee Scott, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.

Corner never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Oak Grove on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 13-3 win.

Corner got a massive performance out of Anna Kate Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mckenzie Cotton also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Corner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Grove only posted a batting average of .300.

Hayden pushed their record up to 12-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Corner, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12-1.

Hayden skirted past Corner 5-4 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hayden since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
