Baseball Recap: Grainger Comes Up Short

Grainger made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pigeon Forge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 3-1 on Friday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Grizzlies couldn't push the score so high this time.

Braxton Davis was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Grainger saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kade Lucas, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one stolen base. Lucas has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Carver Turley was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Grainger has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for Pigeon Forge, they pushed their record up to 12-7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Coming up, Grainger will take on Unicoi County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Pigeon Forge, they will square off against Eagleton College & Career Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Royals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.57 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
