Baseball Game Preview: Santa Clara Bruins vs. Fremont Firebirds

The Santa Clara Bruins will venture away from home to take on the Fremont Firebirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Clara is coming into the match hot, having won their last 12 games.

On Thursday, Santa Clara made easy work of MacDonald and carried off a 15-1 victory. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by six runs or more this season.

Dominick Chavarria and Zach Gallegos did most of the damage at the plate: Chavarria went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Gallegos went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Gallegos has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Rahbar, who earned two RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Santa Clara always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as MacDonald only posted an OBP of .200.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Fremont's offense. They fell 4-0 to Homestead on Saturday. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Firebirds were not able to get on the board.

Santa Clara's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Fremont, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5.

Everything went Santa Clara's way against Fremont in their previous meeting back in April, as Santa Clara made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
