Recap: Shamokin Area Indians vs. Selinsgrove Seals
The Shamokin Area Indians had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They secured a 55-50 W over Selinsgrove. Given Shamokin Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Selinsgrove is ranked 202nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Several Seals players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ries Naugle, who scored 17 points. Naugle is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Gavin Bastian was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Shamokin Area has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Selinsgrove, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
Shamokin Area will head out on the road to challenge Jersey Shore at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Selinsgrove, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Central Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Hunter Hoy and Naugle.
