The Seton LaSalle Rebels are taking a road trip to challenge the Ellwood City Wolverine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Seton LaSalle is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
While Seton LaSalle's win against McGuffey wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rebels narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Highlanders 4-3.
Noah Sear looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Seton LaSalle let Connor Rothhaar and Dom Bresinger run wild. Rothhaar got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Bresinger went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Norkevicus, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Seton LaSalle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Ellwood City was a bit more limited in their game last Monday. They lost 11-1 to Montour. The Wolverine's defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Ellwood City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Keller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Seton LaSalle's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Ellwood City, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seton LaSalle has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ellwood City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
