Baseball Preview: Lawrence North Wildcats vs. University Trailblazers
The Lawrence North Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the University Trailblazers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lawrence North and Hamilton Southeastern meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wildcats fell just short of the Royals by a score of 4-2.
Oliver Glanzman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. John Whetstone also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, University had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Huskies as they made off with a 7-0 victory. Give the Trailblazers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Not much got past Cam Rady, who gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks to keep Hamilton Heights off the board. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Rady.
On the hitting side, Ryan Castetter was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for University: the team is 8-3 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise.
Lawrence North's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Lawrence North came out on top in a nail-biter against University in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
