Basketball Game Preview: Marshall Cardinals vs. Mayville Cardinals

The Marshall Cardinals and the Mayville Cardinals will round out the year against one another at at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Marshall's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Marshall took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 66-58 victory over Deerfield. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Demons are ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mayville). They breezed by St. Mary's Springs to the tune of 85-56 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cardinals.

Marshall pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.3 points per game. As for Mayville, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-4.
