Basketball Recap: Destin Skates Past Jay with Ease

Destin had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 34-point drubbing they dealt Jay on Friday. The Destin Sharks blew past the Jay Royals, posting an 84-50 win. Winning may never get old, but the Sharks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Destin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Calix McCune led the charge by going 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points along with six assists and five rebounds. The matchup was McCune's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Memphis DeLong was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten assists.

Destin has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.3 points per game. As for Jay, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Destin will venture away from home to challenge South Walton at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Destin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully South Walton likes a good challenge. As for Jay, they will head out to square off against West Florida Baptist Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
