Baseball Game Preview: Cahokia Comanches vs. Mt. Vernon Rams

Cahokia hasn't had much luck against Mt. Vernon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Comanches will be playing at home against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Cahokia has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cahokia fell victim to Mt. Vernon and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 15-0 to the Rams.

For Mt. Vernon's part, Bronx Hefner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Hefner a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Maxwell Nowak was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Ty Pierce was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in eight consecutive matchups.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cahokia, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.
