Basketball Recap: Seymour Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Seymour couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They had to suffer through a 63-30 loss at the hands of the Bacon Academy Bobcats. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Bobcats are ranked third).

Skylar Barton and Mia Cunningham certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Barton almost dropped a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Cunningham posted eight points along with seven boards and four steals. What's more, Barton also posted a 71% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January.

Even though they lost, Seymour was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. This was only their third loss (out of 22 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bacon Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Katelyn Novak, who went 7-for-11 to rack up 19 points and five steals. Novak has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kayleigh Engle was another key player, shooting 47% from the field on her way to 23 points.

Seymour moved to 19-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Bacon Academy, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 24-2.

Seymour does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bacon Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 39-25 victory against Windham on the 15th.
