Soccer Game Preview: Galax vs. Eastern Montgomery

The Galax Maroon Tide will head out to face off against the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Galax is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Auburn just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. Neither they nor the Eagles could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 0-0 draw. The result kept Galax happy, as they haven't lost a game since March 20th.

Meanwhile, Eastern Montgomery came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Spartans a 2-0 shutout. Give Eastern Montgomery's defense some credit: that's the team's fifth straight shutout.

Eastern Montgomery pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. With that draw, Galax's record moves to 5-1-1.

Everything went Galax's way against Eastern Montgomery in their previous meeting back in March, as Galax made off with a 6-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maroon Tide since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
