Basketball Recap: Balboa Find Success

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Balboa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They escaped with a win against the Wallenberg Bulldogs by the margin of a single free throw, 47-46. This was a revenge game for the Buccaneers: when they faced off against the Bulldogs back in December of 2024, they had to take a 54-51 loss.

Leading Balboa to victory were Alan Ly and Keone Tran. Ly went 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points, while Tran posted nine points. Gene Cuares was another key player, putting up seven points.

Balboa was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Balboa's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-14. As for Wallenberg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Balboa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-42 defeat against Washington on the 15th. As for Wallenberg, they and The Academy - San Francisco will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
